SPEED UP UR ACROBAT READER (ALMOST LIKE NOTEPAD)

Do u get irritated when acrobat reader takes 5/10 seconds to load when you want to open a pdf document. There is a way to speed up the loading.

1. Go to the installation folder of acrobat reader
(C:\program files\adobe\acrobat\reader\.. whatever)

2. Move all the files and folders from the "plugins" directory to the "Optional" directory. (I repeat.. cut and paste the files NOT copy & paste).

Also make sure that acrobat reader is not open else it will lock the files and not allow you to move the files).

Now your acrobat reader will load very fast
and almost as good as notepad..

lock pc just by double clicking mouse

You can lock your XP workstation with two clicks of
the mouse. Create a new shortcut on your desktop using
a right mouse click, and enter 'rundll32.exe
user32.dll,LockWorkStation' in the location field.
Give the shortcut a name you like. That's it -- just
double click on it and your computer will be locked.
And if that's not easy enough, Windows key + L will do
the same.

Set Wallpapers in local Drives.

(NOVICE USERS PLZ DO NOT TRY THIS)

1: just copy this in to a note pad file

2: save the file in any of u'r local drive (c:\ , d:\ , e:\ , ....)wid the name desktop.ini

3: Now go to C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper now paste the wallpaper in dis directory and name it as XXXX.jpg

now when u open your Local drives u can see tat wallpapers

note:XXXX (Any name will do)
note:this will work only if u have installed xp in c:\
if u have installed xp in sme other drive then change the drive name [drive
names r written in green..

Opening Ports or Adding Allowed Programs with SP2's Firewall
1.Click on Start / Run

2.Enter in firewall.cpl

3.Click on the Exceptions tab

Adding a Port for Internet Access:

1.Click on the Add Port button

2.Name it whatever you want

3.Enter in the ports you want to open

Adding a Program for Internet Access

1.Click on Add Program... button

2.A list of all installed programs will be displayed

3.Highlight the one you want to include for Internet access

4.Click on the OK button

Removing Thumbs.db Files
When viewing a folder with the Thumbnail view, WindowsXP creates a thumbs.db file.

This is a cache of the current pictures in that directory.

If you want to turn this feature off and save a little disk spaceStart the Windows ExplorerGo to Tools / Folder Options / ViewIn the first section under Files and Folders,

check Do not cache thumbnails

Now you can search for the thumbs.db file on your computer and remove them. No more should be created.

No GUI Boot
If you don't need to see the XP boot logo,

Run MSCONFIG

Click on the BOOT.INI tab

Check the box for /NOGUIBOOT

Block websites without any software
Steps1] Browse C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc2]

Find the file named "HOSTS"

3] Open it in notepad

4] Under "127.0.0.1 localhost" Add 127.0.0.2 www.orkut.com , and that site will no longer be accessable

.5] Done!example :127.0.0.1 localhost127.0.0.2 www.orkut.com- www.orkut.com is now unaccessable

For every site after that you want to add,

just add "1" to the last number in the internal ip (127.0.0.2)

e.g127.0.0.3 www.yahoo.com127.0.0.4 www.msn.com127.0.0.5 www.google.com

To change Drive Letters:
Go to Start > Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management, Disk Management, then right-cl!ck the partition whose name you want to change (cl!ck in the white area just below the word "Volume") and select "change drive letter and paths."

From here you can add, remove or change drive letters and paths to the partition.

Remove the Recycle Bin from the Desktop

If you don't use the Recycle Bin to store deleted files , you can get rid of its desktop icon all together.
Run Regedit and go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/explorer/Desktop/NameSpace
Click on the "Recycle Bin" string in the right hand pane. Hit Del, click OK.

How to Rename the Recycle Bin

To change the name of the Recycle Bin desktop icon, open Regedit and go to:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/CLSID/{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
and change the name "Recycle Bin" to whatever you want (don't type any quotes).

HEAR .PDF files with no headache of reading

You can listen to any PDF instead of reading, yes it is possible with Adobe Reader 7 .0 or 6.0,and the short cut isCtrl+shift+b -to hear the entire Document(View -> Read out Loud -> Read to the End of Document)Ctrl+shift+v -to hear the page(View -> Read out Loud -> Read This Page)If it is not convenient to hear, because the voice is very fast, u can adjust that using the Voice Speed -> slow adjustment in the Control Panel->SPEECH.
